Compliant with Canadian Building standards, all recently installed boilers must have an AFUE rating of at least 80 percent. Energy STAR rated boilers must have an AFUE rating of at least 90 percent. Today's Non-Condensing Gas Boilerstypically has an intermittent ignition device, or a continuous pilot light. Non-condensing gas boilers are also better insulated than they were previously so that they can prevent unnecessary heat loss.
Non-condensing gas boilers are well constructed and simple, so they don't break down very often and are known for their long shelf life. Yearly maintenance is recommended.
